If I was an intern

if I was an intern....

... I would want to intern for Marissa Mayer.

She's Vice President, Search Products & User Experience at Google, and is a hella smart engineer with a B.S. in Symbolic Systems and an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University (specializing in artificial intelligence for both).

She oversees about 2,000 people at Google and is responsible for things like Google Earth, Google Health, and the Google desktop.

What I really find interesting about her, though, is the fact that she combines these mad chops with other interests - she's invested in a couture level "cake gallery", is a fashion lover (she visited the last NY fashion week), and she is ad avid art collector, owning original works by
Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, among others.

Oh, and she just got appointed to the board at SF MOMA. Awesome!

Don't see many dilettantes in the tech world. Love it! So if I was an intern, I'd want to work for Marissa Mayer.

If I was an intern...

... I would want to intern for Eli Broad.

I first came across him through this article in the NY Times, which was specifically about his decision *not* to donate his amazing contemporary art collection to LACMA, an institution that he is an ardent and enthusiastic supporter of. I loved his reasoning, it made a lot of sense to me. He's good at seeing the bigger picture, and envisioning long-term solutions. I mean, it's obvious that he's smart (you don't to be a self-made billionaire by watching reality TV), but I admire how involved and aware of his community he seems to be.

He runs three foundations:
Education
Art
Science

Here he talks about his visions for LA. I love it when people own and embody the space that they are in. So if I was an intern, I'd like to work for Eli Broad.
