THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED, BUT PLEASE FOLLOW OUR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS OF FUTURE ROLES!

👋Hi! Studies have shown that men tend to apply for jobs for which they only 60% qualify for, while women and people from marginalized communities tend to only apply if they meet 100% of the qualifications. (One source: Harvard Business Review.) I’ve tried to be as clear as possible about the kind of person I hope to hire–but if the job speaks to your spirit but not your experience, I encourage you to apply. If you think you’d be good at this job, tell me why! I don't have a traditional background myself, so if you don't have the usual bonafides please don't be hesitant to apply.

xo, Liza

EFF THIS! Meditation is hiring a part-time community coordinator for our private online community which will be launching in early 2020. Yay!

This role is best suited to a strong self-starter with attention to detail and comfort learning new things. It requires a mix of emotional intelligence and geekiness (someone who is comfortable with both people and numbers)–as well as high levels of organization.

This is a freelance role paying $20 USD an hour and will take 12-15 hours per week during a typical week. This is a virtual / online role and can be done from anywhere (although our “daytime hours” are centered in the US.) The overall schedule is quite flexible–but this role is very hands-on with the community, so I do expect you to touch in on most days. Position start date is flexible.

There will be an increase in hours during the times that we open the community to new members or launch new courses. (Weeks requiring those bumps in hours will be on the calendar far in advance, so you will be able to plan accordingly.)

Depending on your availability and interest, there is also the possibility of attending in-person retreats. And of course if the community grows as we expect that it will (thanks to your help!) both the number of weekly hours and the hourly pay could increase. There is certainly the potential for this to turn into a full-time role if that’s something you are interested in.

Qualities that this role requires:

  • A deep level of curiosity (Why is this this way? What can we learn here? What can we try?)

  • Attention to detail (no sloppy or half-done work)

  • Self organization

  • A high level of personal accountability (meeting your own goals without having someone checking in)

  • Honest communication skills

  • A high level of personal awareness

  • Tolerance for working with uncertainty (in this startup environment, things shift quickly)

  • Demonstrated commitment to learning and growing

  • Genuine desire to make the world a better place

  • Compassion for humans

  • Aptitude for written communication

  • Bonus skill: graphic design

Pre-launch duties will include:

  • First, gain a deep understanding of the EFF THIS! Meditation book, value system, belief system, our goals for 2020, and our touchpoints; as well as content and strategies for upcoming classes and retreats

  • Become an expert on our technical platforms

  • Help plan and test ongoing community content strategies (which might include group live video calls, private videos, guided meditations, worksheets, ebooks, physical gifts, guest experts, etc.)

  • Assist in preparing themes and content for the community for the first year

  • Plan community engagement strategies (including the onboarding process and ongoing daily, weekly, and monthly approaches–this will be things like prompts, contests, quizzes, themed discussions, etc)

  • Co-develop the community’s Code of Conduct, rules of engagement, and plans for dealing with problems as they inevitably arise

  • Communicate and coordinate with the rest of the EFF THIS! Meditation team (which is both internal and external) including: content, social media, marketing, press, our advisory committee, and of course me, Liza

  • Work with our mindful learning advisor and our accessibility advocate to ensure that their recommendations are being taken into account in your work

  • Arrange private discounts with like-minded companies

Post-launch duties will include:

  • During “doors open” periods (a few times a year): welcoming new members, working out any technical glitches, ensure a smooth and engaging onboarding process for new members, making sure existing members feel included and excited for new members

  • Touching into the community daily (posting content, answering questions, using prompts, addressing concerns, having fun with the community, modeling ideal behavior)

  • Address any issues or problems within the community as they might arise

  • Manage and implement the ongoing calendar of themes and content

  • Helping to shape ongoing content strategy

  • Compile weekly reporting about what types of community engagement strategies are working and which aren’t–and react accordingly

  • Advocate for community members within the broader EFF THIS! Meditation business

  • Kindly encouraging other members of the EFF THIS! Meditation internal team to stay engaged with the community

  • Track ongoing financial analytics about churn, retention, lifetime value, customer acquisition cost, etc. and develop appropriate responses to business trends

  • As the community grows, continuing to learn about and implement strategies for making all feel welcome (could include subgroups, supporting local meetups, personal interest groups, community leaders, etc.)

  • Develop a loyalty and referral program

  • Manage new and existing relationships with like-minded companies for discounts and partnerships strategies

  • Manage your own ongoing self education about best practices, new strategies, etc.

The reality of the role

This is a freelance role, with the pros and cons that come from that: no healthcare, but lots of flexibility. This is a startup role with the pros and cons that come with that: we’re building the systems and processes as we go, but you can get a lot of experience doing new things.

I’m very focused on supporting the growth of the people who work for me: of helping people meet their own professional goals, of providing a kind and flexible workplace where people can be their true selves, and on trying to make things as win-win as possible while meeting our business goals. I am extraordinarily proud of the enormous success that people who have worked for me throughout the years have gone on to achieve.

This is a workplace where you are expected to do your own research, present possible solutions at the same time that you present problems, and help to set everyone around you up for their own success (which means being transparent in your work, setting up systems that other people can understand, and sharing what you learn.) It is also a workplace where it is imperative that you are able to meet your own goals without being managed. It believe it would be appropriate to call this a high expectation and high accountability environment.

This is not a workplace where you are expected to be “on” all the time, where you have to pretend like you know things that you don’t know, or where you can’t get support when you’re struggling. Ongoing education is important here. Learning and growing and sharing what you know are important here. Mental health is important here. Kindness and laughter are important here. Your lived experience is important here. It believe that it would be appropriate to also call this a warm and loving environment.

(Note: it’s an in-depth application which will take some time to prepare. Please know that I am looking for someone thoughtful and thorough, so I won't waste either of our precious times by responding to incomplete applications.)
