THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED, BUT PLEASE FOLLOW OUR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS OF FUTURE ROLES!

👋Hi! Studies have shown that men apply for jobs for which they only 60% qualify for, while women and people from marginalized communities tend to only apply if they meet 100% of the qualifications. (One source: Harvard Business Review.) I’ve tried to be as clear as possible about the kind of person I hope to hire–but if the job speaks to your spirit but not your experience, I encourage you to apply. If you think you’d be good at this job, tell me why! I don't have a traditional background myself, so if you don't have the usual bonafides please don't be hesitant to apply.

xo, Liza

EFF THIS! Meditation is hiring a part-time social media and content production specialist. w00t!

This role is best suited to a highly organized self-starter who is equally comfortable working from the right and left sides of their brain. (i.e., Does this look right for the brand? And how can it be better optimized to reach our goals?) It requires a mix of creativity and an analytical mind.

This is a freelance role paying $20 USD an hour and will take 12-15 hours per week during a typical week. This is a virtual / online role and can be done from anywhere (although our “daytime hours” are centered in the US.) The overall schedule is quite flexible with the right planning and organization, but there will be occasional times when things will need to be done on a schedule (such as posting at certain times.) Position start date is flexible.

There will be an increase in hours during the times that we prepare to do big promotional blitzes. (Weeks requiring those bumps in hours will be on the calendar far in advance, so you will be able to plan accordingly.)

Depending on your availability and interest, there is also the possibility of attending in-person retreats. And of course if the business continues to grow as we expect that it will (thanks to your help!) both the number of weekly hours and the hourly pay could increase. There is certainly the potential for this to turn into a full-time role if that’s something you are interested in.

Qualities that this role requires:

  • Aptitude for written and visual communication (including copywriting and basic graphic design skills)

  • Attention to detail (no sloppy or half-done work) combined with an ability to move fast when needed

  • Shockingly good self organization

  • A basic understanding of analytics (or a demonstrated ability to learn these kinds of things quickly)

  • A deep level of curiosity (Why is this this way? What can we learn here? What can we try?)

  • Personal accountability (meeting your own goals without having someone checking in)

  • Honest communication skills

  • A high level of personal awareness

  • Tolerance for working with uncertainty (in this startup environment, things shift quickly)

  • Demonstrated commitment to learning and growing

  • Genuine desire to make the world a better place

  • Compassion for humans

  • Bonus skill: experience or aptitude for running paid ad campaigns

duties will include:

  • First, to gain a deep understanding of the EFF THIS! Meditation book, value system, belief system, our goals for 2020, and our touchpoints; as well as content and strategies for upcoming classes and retreats

  • Work with me (Liza, the founder) to establish short and long term goals for your role

  • Familiarize yourself with our social media and content to date; make an audit and recommendations for immediate and long-term improvement

  • Plan and manage social media + content calendars (stick to the plan 90% of the time, make adjustments roughly 10% of the time)

  • Plan and manage daily and weekly postings across multiple channels (Instagram, YouTube, newsletter, blog, LinkedIn, Thrive, Medium)

  • Compile weekly reporting about what types of strategies are working and which aren’t–and react accordingly

  • Make sure that each thing we create or participate in is being spread through all of our channels, as appropriate

  • Manage and implement the ongoing calendar of themes and content

  • Launch regular features (Meditation Teacher Mondays, Shout-Out Saturdays, etc.)

  • Manage our Amazon store and seasonal Spotify playlists

  • Communicate and coordinate with the rest of the EFF THIS! Meditation team (which is both internal and external) including: community, marketing, press, our advisory committee, and of course me, Liza

  • Plan and manage promotional blitzes 6-8 times a year (focused on launches and other goals)

  • Engage with our community through social channels (respond to comments, repost shoutouts, etc.)

  • Work with our digital marketing specialist to test and run paid ad campaigns

  • Manage, encourage, and hold me responsible for using my personal social media channels to help us meet our business goals

  • Ensure that our web content (blog posts, videos, etc.) is optimized for SEO

  • Work with our accessibility advocate to ensure that we are using best practices and other recommendations

  • Track ongoing analytics about engagement, traffic, etc. and develop appropriate responses to business trends

  • Ensure that the way we use social media and content is fully in support of our core value system (no marketing gimmicks, etc)

  • Manage your own ongoing self education about best practices, new strategies, etc. and share what you learn with the rest of the team

  • Kindly encouraging other members of the EFF THIS! Meditation internal team to stay engaged across our social channels

The reality of the role

This is a freelance role, with the pros and cons that come from that: no healthcare, but lots of flexibility. This is a startup role with the pros and cons that come with that: we’re building the systems and processes as we go, but you can get a lot of experience doing new things.

I’m very focused on supporting the growth of the people who work for me: of helping people meet their own professional goals, of providing a kind and flexible workplace where people can be their true selves, and on trying to make things as win-win as possible while meeting our business goals. I am extraordinarily proud of the enormous success that people who have worked for me throughout the years have gone on to achieve.

This is a workplace where you are expected to do your own research, present possible solutions at the same time that you present problems, and help to set everyone around you up for their own success (which means being transparent in your work, setting up systems that other people can understand, and sharing what you learn.) It is also a workplace where it is imperative that you are able to meet your own goals without being managed. It believe it would be appropriate to call this a high expectation and high accountability environment.

This is not a workplace where you are expected to be “on” all the time, where you have to pretend like you know things that you don’t know, or where you can’t get support when you’re struggling. Ongoing education is important here. Learning and growing and sharing what you know are important here. Mental health is important here. Kindness and laughter are important here. Your lived experience is important here. It believe that it would be appropriate to also call this a warm and loving environment.
