In the book, tip #068 recommends listening to podcasts. Here are some of my faves; feel free to add yours in the comments below!

The Moth

My all time favorite podcast is the storytelling podcast The Moth. It's an incredibly diverse selection of stories told by real people, in front of a live audience, about their own lived experiences. Here are a few stories I am particularly obsessed with:

  • Angel – This beautiful story sends chills down my spine. Told by Darryl “DMC” McDaniels (from Run DMC) about a difficult time in his life, and how musician Sarah McLachlan helped him discover a shocking and life-changing truth about himself.

  • Juicy Lessons From 'The Place' â€“ A woman shares about how she decided to lose her virginity in what must be the most empowered way possible. I had Nika listen to this when she was 12 because it is truly that inspiring.

  • California Gothic â€“  By the end of this story, I was laughing so hard I had to pull the car over. It's truly indescribable, but I will say that there is an exotic pet involved. And some very famous people.

  • The Best of Times, The Worst of Times â€“ A heartbreaking, searingly human tale of a comedian who gets his big break at exactly the same time that the biggest heartbreak of his life is unfolding.

Other podcasts I LOve

  • LeVar Burton Reads – The best short fiction, handpicked by the world’s greatest storyteller.

  • 2 Dope Queens – They’re are funny. They're black. They're BFFs. And they host a live comedy show in Brooklyn.

  • Dear Sugar – Radically empathic advice from Cheryl Strayed and Steve Almond.

  • That’s So Retrograde – Ab Fab of the new age.

  • The One You Feed  â€“ Practical wisdom for a better life.

  • On Being – Pursuing deep thinking, social courage, moral imagination and joy, to renew inner life, outer life, and life together.

  • Family Secrets – About the secrets we keep–and the power in bringing them to light.

  • Mortified – Witness adults sharing their most embarrassing childhood artifacts.
